OUR 5 COFFEE CAUSES

Burro Bueno Coffee is dedicated to enriching lives and communities through our 5 Coffee Causes - feeding, sheltering, teaching, refreshing, and supporting the people of Canchias, Honduras.

FEEDING

Hunger is a harsh reality for many families in the small town of Canchias and the surrounding areas. Burro Bueno Coffee is dedicated to fighting hunger through our coffee profits. Through partnerships with local farmers and organizations, we currently provide nutritious meals to those in need, ensuring that everyone has access to food.

One of our long-term goals, however, is to provide an abundance of livestock for the people of Canchias. We continually strive to meet specific, current nutritional needs of the community. Instead of promoting what we know as the "norm" like grocery stores, our profits are allocated towards the purchase of diary cows and chickens and more of what the people of Canchias are accustomed to. We'll be offering sustainable food sources the community can readily and consistently use for years to come.

"Years ago, there was a boy named Roni. Our team was working in a city and had taken a break. We were sitting around eating our lunches off of Styrofoam trays. Meanwhile, Roni was eyeing us. One person in our group was perceptive. After taking a couple bites, they closed their tray, called Roni over, and handed it to him. He went running down this rocky road with the tray in his hand - no shoes, just running across the rocks. He went into a little home a few houses down. We came back later with a pair of shoes, but we wanted to help him more. When we approached the home, there was an older couple who were bedridden. There was a little table between them, and the Styrofoam tray was on that table. He had run home with that tray of food to give to the bedridden couple."   -Glenn Ferrell, Burro Bueno Founder

SHELTERING

A safe and secure home is essential for a happy and healthy life. That's why we're working to provide shelter for families in Honduras. Whether it's building new homes or renovating existing ones, we're committed to providing safe housing for those who need it most.

"Margarita was living in a shelter with a tin roof and no walls with her disabled adult son. Years ago, I saw her sitting under this shelter - I had no idea it was her home. I sat with her and started talking to her. Margarita had a piece of tin sitting over a fire, making corn tortillas. Next to that was a pan filled with grounds and water. She was making coffee that she had to pour out slowly, or all the grounds would come out with it. With what little she had, she insisted that I sit down and have a cup of coffee and a tortilla. A year later, we were able to go back and help provide a home for Margarita and her son, who she was still taking care of at 86 years old."   -Glenn Ferrell, Burro Bueno Founder

TEACHING

At Burro Bueno Coffee, we believe in the power of education to transform not only individual lives, but entire communities. Thus, we're committed to providing educational opportunities for both children and adults in Honduras.

With each purchase of Burro Bueno coffee, we're able to support a range of educational initiatives in rural Honduras. Our team cultivates initiatives that empower farmers to share their knowledge and expertise with others, ensuring a brighter future for farming communities everywhere. All the while, ensuring children have access to quality learning opportunities.

"Brandil Rodriguez comes from a multigenerational farming family. He could teach us all, even here in the States, about sustainable organic farming. We want to create opportunities for people like Brandil to teach those who want to work in Latin-American countries, who want to work on slopes, and who simply want to learn in that regard. Additionally, our goal is to create opportunities for school children. You’ve never seen kids so anxious to learn. They huddle around street lights before the sun rises in the morning in an attempt to study because they want to go to school and do well."   -Glenn Ferrell, Burro Bueno Founder

We currently maintain a growing partnership with the only school in Canchias, Honduras. Part of our dream, expanding with each coffee purchase, is getting to provide additional educational opportunities for their young students. For example, offering English classes would give a great advantage outside of the rural community of Canchias. Being multilingual is a true gift when searching for Honduran jobs and bringing economic growth into the community.

SUPPORTING

We believe in holistic community support. Whether through medical care, local business support, or environmental conservation, we're committed to helping communities thrive.

In Canchias specifically, one of the greatest felt needs is medical care. The community is up to 2 hours away from the nearest hospital or qualified medical clinic. However, Burro Bueno Coffee profits are directly funding a property that houses an abandoned medical clinic in Canchias. Much work is still needed to get the clinic up and running, but we're off to a fantastic start thanks to donated medical equipment.

REFRESHING

We understand the importance of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. That's why we're creating a sabbatical location for pastors, worship leaders, individuals, and families worldwide, offering a place for transformation and renewal.

With your support, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those in need in Honduras. Join us in our mission to teach, feed, shelter, refresh, and support the communities that need it most. Together, we can create a brighter future for all.
